Computing, Brands, and Helping Hands

Just a thought. One of the interesting uses of a platform like this is as a place to stash notes, and make them searchable with a powerful search engine: desktop search, after all, has been junk for a long time--the stuff worth using died in the 2000's for most end-users' use cases. Of course, since these are also sites, they are at times thought of as brands or topical channels that people can come visit. So when you use them as a dump you fear "I'll drive someone off!" Then when I think about it, however, it's interesting that a lot of what drives people to a site is random posts--that they are then connected to by a search on a search engine... So I think the brand/ing/ed thinking is a short-sighted and incorrect on the web, in many ways (even when search engines somewhat prefer it!), as if you post useful things and people get connected to it, that's great! Put another way, people interested in "coputing", making, problem solving, and so on, aren't exactly focused on business as usual (if at all). So I think I'll use this little blog as a place to post useful things--topics, collections of sources, findings, etc., so I can search for them. Then if others potentially can use that posted information, great! And not worry.
