geek lingo 1

This post is made just in order to link for the definition of a certain term with which the internet (or geek) illiterate may be unfamiliar. The word is, 'bump':

- in 'e-slang', some user action giving more prominence (promoting) to some target, e.g. a web page in search engines, a thread on a message forum by updating the most recent post date of that thread where the system is set to prioritize (for visibility/dispaly) most recent activity, or on a forum, a rating increase on a comment to push it above a minimum for viewing threshold, etc..; the latter two examples may also be acronymously denoted 'bring up my post'.
